GOLD PRICE ALERT (Jan. 18): Randgold Resources, New Gold, IAMGOLD Corp, Harmony Gold Mining, Pan American Silver – GOLD, NGD, IAG, HMY, PAAS, ANV

PRICES of gold edged lower Friday as the greenback strengthened. However, gold posted an increase for the week. The precious metal slipped Friday even as data posted earlier in the day showed that China’s economy improved nearly 8 percent in the fourth quarter last year.

February’s gold futures delivery on the New York Mercantile Exchange Comex Division ended $3.81 lower at $1,687 per ounce. Gold futures gained 1.6 percent for the week.

Meanwhile, here’s a look at how gold mining stocks performed, as of January 18, 2013:

Randgold Resources Limited (NASDAQ:GOLD) – which carries out exploration and gold mining activities – traded at $92.26 down -0.64 percent in Friday’s trading. The company traded -9.38 percent below its 50-day moving average and -6.21 percent below its 200-day moving average. Its price-to-earnings ratio is 19.76 and its market capitalization is $8.51 billion.

New Gold Inc. (NYSE: NGD) – an intermediate gold producer with a complementary portfolio of worldwide assets – traded at $10.92 up 0.93 percent in Friday’s trading. The firm traded 2.34 percent above its 50-day moving average and 5.20 percent above its 200-day moving average. Its price-to-earnings ratio is 49.69 and its market capitalization is $5.21 billion.

IAMGOLD Corp. (NYSE: IAG) – a mid-tier gold mining firm – traded at $11.01 up 1.49 percent in Friday’s trading. The company traded -6.45 percent below its 50-day moving average and -10.81 percent below its 200-day moving average. Its price-to-earnings ratio is 10.79 and its market capitalization is $4.15 billion.

Harmony Gold Mining Co. Ltd. (NYSE: HMY) – engaged in gold mining and other related activities – traded at $7.65 up 1.18 percent in Friday’s trading. The company traded -5.27 percent below its 50-day moving average and -14.81 percent below its 200-day moving average. Its price-to-earnings ratio is 12.51 and its market capitalization is $3.34 billion.

Pan American Silver Corp. (NASDAQ: PAAS) – engaged in silver mining and other related activities – traded at $18.41 down -0.71 percent in Friday’s trading. The firm traded -2.43 percent below its 50-day moving average and 0.81 percent above its 200-day moving average. Its price-to-earnings ratio is 10.60 and its market capitalization is $2.82 billion.

Allied Nevada Gold Corp. (NYSE: ANV) – a gold mining firm that operates the Hycroft Mine – traded at $25.38 down -5.25 percent in Friday’s trading. The firm’s RSI was at 27.14 which show that the stock is oversold. Its price-to-earnings ratio is 46.17 and its market capitalization is $2.30 billion.

AuRico Gold Inc. (NYSE: AUQ) – a Canadian gold producer – traded at $7.97 down -2.56 percent in Friday’s trading. The firm traded -0.30 percent below its 50-day moving average and 3.97 percent above its 200-day moving average. Its price-to-earnings ratio is 29.49 and its market capitalization is $2.26 billion.
